Last week I was invited along to the first read/stagger through of Unlimited Theatre’s new show The Noise. The brief was to take rehearsal photographs that could be used for press and social media as well as some video footage that could go with an interview I was filming. I jumped at the chance. I love taking rehearsal photos, unfortunately for me a lot of the younger/emerging companies I work with tend to overlook them due to time and budget constraints..
Why do I love them? It’s such an exciting place to be. Everyone is working at creating the structure, content and feel of the show. I get to work at my own pace and capture and those moments when people are deep in thought can lead to wonderful moments to photograph. Some of my favourite photographs I’ve taken have been in rehearsals. I will always love taking production photos but sometimes the change of pace is lovely. Plus if I’m lucky enough to take the production photographs as well its always exciting to see where the show started and where it has ended up.
On this particular day they were rehearsing at Jerwood Space. It’s such a great building and i have photographed there a couple of times before. It makes such a difference when there are big windows that flood the room with natural light. I was there for a few hours and it was great. Even fitted in a drink with the guys after which again is a rare treat.
I’m looking forward to seeing the show when it tours. You can find out more about the show and where its going here
Heres a selection of my favourite shots from the day.
